Ich habe diese Band zwar schon erwähnt, finde aber, dass sie auf jeden Fall auch einen eigenen Thread verdient hat. Wolves in the Throne Room ist eine amerikanische Black Metal Band, die sich aber meiner Meinung nach von allen anderen Black Metal Bands stark unterscheidet. Es wäre auch kein Fehler sie in die Ambient oder Post Rock Schublade zu stecken, aufgrund der Atmosphäre, die von ihren Songs ausgeht. Diese haben eigentlich so ziemlich alle Überlänge und sollen (nach Worten der Band) den Zuhörer in einen trance-artigen Zustand versetzen. Das setzt natürlich in gewisser Hinsicht eine Art Monotonie vorraus, weshalb ich ihre Musik gerne als Post Black Metal bezeichne.
Es lohnt sich auf jeden Fall mal reinzuhören und wenn man zudem dem Black Metal an sich nicht wirklich abgeneigt ist, könnte sich diese Band, wie es bei mir der Fall ist, auch zu seinen Lieblingen einreihen.
Mich fasziniert die Band auf eine gewisse Weise, obwohl ich noch nicht wirklich viel von ihnen gehört habe. Nur immer mal kurz und nicht ein ganzes Album. Demnächst, wenn es die Stimmung erlaubt. Und auf dem ATP-Festival werden sie auch sein

The new album, though still untitled, will be the third WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM full-length for Southern Lord Recordings. Aaron and Nathan Weaver, the founding and only full-time members of the band, will collaborate once again with producer/mystic Randall Dunn (Earth, Sunn O))), Boris) who produced WITTR’s mammoth Two Hunters and Black Cascade albums.
This week Aaron Weaver supplied some insight on the creation of the new album. “I got into a daily rhythm of greeting the weak winter sun in the morning, working outside in the rain until midday, then retiring to our studio to work on the music late into the night. I did this nearly every day for two months. Quite a monastic lifestyle actually. I didn’t see many people. We were totally lost inside the record. Once the record was conceived from beginning to end, we met with Randall and started to slowly build the tracks at his studio in Seattle. I think that this album will be the best thing that Wolves in the Throne Room has created. We’ve never been able to devote this much time to writing and recording. It feels like this will be the culmination of everything we’ve done up to this point.”
In addition to the Weaver brothers, the album will also feature vocal contributions from Jessika Kenny, who contributed so much to the transcendent tone of the band’s massive Two Hunters album.

Hast es dir mal zu Gemüte geführt?
Ich kann nur sagen: Wolves in the throne room überzeugen auch mit 'Celestial Lineage' wieder auf ganzer Linie. Klingt ähnlich, wie 'Two Hunters' und 'Black Cascade', was aber auch ok ist, wenn man bedenkt, dass 'Celestial Lineage' der Abschluss einer Trilogie ist. Zudem ist es eben genau das, was man hören will, wenn man sich eine Wolves Platte kauft. (Opeth könnten sich hier mal eine Scheibe von abschneiden *hust*)
Thuja Magnus Imperium: Ein typischer Wolves song. Unglaubliche Atmosphäre, tolle Melodien und ein Aufbau, der seines gleichen sucht (bis 4:28, danach gehts dann richtig los). Großartiger Song
Subterranean Initiation: Meiner Meinung nach der am wenigsten eingängige Song. Bisher halte ich ihn für den schwächsten Song des Albums, kann aber gut sein, dass ich in ein paar Wochen das wieder revidiere.
Astral Blood: Wieder ein typischer Wolves song. Erinnert vom Aufbau evtl ein wenig an 'Ex Cathedra'. Auch hier frage ich mich mal wieder: Ist das wirklich noch Black Metal? Wenn ich mir da so andere Bands anhöre (und ich höre sehr gerne Black Metal), dann ist das, was Wolves hier schaffen, doch deutlich größer.
Prayer Of Transformation: Auch dieser Song hat nichts mit dem zu tun, was man von 'Black Cascade' und 'Two Hunters' kennt. Man könnte es als 'Doom Black Metal' bezeichnen. Ob es das Genre wirklich gibt, weiß ich nicht, aber es ist ganz großes Kino.
Auf die Interludes gehe ich nicht näher ein, sie verweben die einzelnen richtigen Songs zu einem sinnigen Ganzen.
Wenn ich Subterranean Initiation dann irgendwann auch mal verstanden habe, würde ich 'Celestial Lineage' als ebenbürtig zu Two Hunters bezeichnen. Black Cascade bleibt weiterhin mein Favorit (habe ich allerdings auch deutlich öfter gehört).
